The ACE Apex is Garrett's beginner-priced multi-frequency detector. 'Multi-frequency' means it searches on several frequencies at the same time, which helps it find a wide range of targets — coins, relics (old buried objects) and general finds — without you having to pick the right setting first. It's light and quick to learn, which is what makes it a good first 'real' detector. The search coil can go in shallow water, but keep the control box up top: it's rain-resistant, not built to be dunked.
