A gold pan is a shallow dish you swirl creek dirt and water in so the heavy gold sinks and the lighter material washes out. This is the smaller 10-inch version, good for two jobs: it suits kids and smaller hands, and it's ideal for 'finishing', which is the careful last step where you tip the small amount of gold and dark sand left over from a big pan into this little pan and separate the gold at the end. A handy second pan to keep alongside a full-size one.
