A loupe is a small, powerful magnifying glass that folds into its own metal case so it lives in your pocket. This one magnifies 10 times, which is enough to check whether a speck is real gold or 'fool's gold' (iron pyrites, which glitters but is worthless), and to look closely at flakes, specimens and the tiny hallmarks stamped on jewellery. The 'triplet' lens uses three bonded pieces of glass so the view stays sharp and true to colour right to the edges.
