The Simplex Ultra is a fully waterproof metal detector from Nokta, built so a beginner can pick it up quickly. It runs on a single search frequency (15 kHz) with ready-made modes for parks, fields and the beach, so you switch to the right one instead of fiddling with settings. Being submersible to 5 m, it's just as happy in wet grass, creek edges and shallow water as on dry land. It comes with a large 28 cm (11-inch) waterproof search coil — the flat disc that sweeps the ground — on a light carbon-fibre shaft.
